Isma & Ryan at Leicester Racecourse

Some wedding venues are built around intimacy.

Leicester Racecourse can do that, but it can also do big.

Isma and Ryan got married there on 25 July 2026, right in the middle of summer, with the sort of venue that gives a wedding room to breathe rather than squeezing everyone into one corner.

Leicester Racecourse sits in Oadby, just outside Leicester city centre, across around 200 acres of grounds. It’s still very much a working racecourse, but weddings and large events are a serious part of what the venue does too. Leicester Racecourse

A Leicester Racecourse wedding

The first thing you notice about Leicester Racecourse as a wedding venue is simply the amount of space.

There are several different rooms and event spaces across the site, with civil ceremony licences available in a number of them. For larger celebrations, the Kube can seat up to 550 guests, while other spaces include the Nelson Suite, Trackside Marquee and Club Suite. Leicester Racecourse

That makes it a very different proposition from a small country house or converted barn.

You can actually build the day around the people coming rather than trimming the guest list to fit the building.

And when you’ve got a wedding with a lot of people, movement and energy, that matters.

Weddings with a bit of scale

Big weddings photograph differently.

There’s more happening at once.

More conversations. More people arriving. More generations in the same room. More little pockets of activity happening away from whatever the official timetable says should be going on.

That’s where documentary wedding photography becomes particularly useful.

You can’t manufacture that kind of atmosphere by endlessly arranging people. You have to watch it, anticipate it and be ready when something happens.

For me, that’s far more interesting than trying to make every photograph perfectly symmetrical.

Space without feeling miles away from Leicester

One of Leicester Racecourse’s strengths is that, despite having acres of space around it, it isn’t buried in the middle of nowhere.

The venue is in Oadby with access back into Leicester and the wider Midlands road network, including the M1 and M69. The racecourse itself highlights the combination of large grounds, parking and transport links as one of the reasons it works for weddings and events. Leicester Racecourse

That sounds like a boring logistical detail until you’re organising a wedding with a sizeable guest list.

Then suddenly parking becomes considerably more exciting.

A venue you can actually make your own

Leicester Racecourse also offers self-hire options, which gives couples more flexibility over things like catering, décor and how the space is used.

The venue allows reputable external caterers and décor companies, while spaces such as the Kube are effectively large blank canvases for couples who want to build something around their own plans rather than fit into a rigid wedding package. Leicester Racecourse

That flexibility is probably one of the biggest reasons the venue works for such a broad range of weddings.

The building doesn’t have to become the personality of the day.

The people can.

And ultimately, that’s what matters.

A huge venue on its own doesn’t make good photographs.

People do.

The best bits of a wedding are usually the things nobody could have put into a spreadsheet beforehand. Someone losing it during a speech. A conversation in the corner. People seeing each other for the first time that day. The point where everyone stops thinking about the schedule and just gets on with enjoying themselves.

That’s what I’m looking for.

Not a wedding made to look perfect.

A wedding that actually felt like something.

If you’re planning a Leicester Racecourse wedding, or getting married elsewhere around Leicester or Leicestershire, you can have a look through my wedding portfolio.

My approach is relaxed and documentary-led, with a bit of direction when it actually helps rather than turning half your wedding day into a photoshoot.

You can also see wedding coverage have a look through the brochure or get in touch if you’ve already got your date.
