There are wedding venues with a nice view, and then there’s Low Wood Bay.
Alice and James got married there on 14 June 2026, right on the edge of Lake Windermere. It’s one of those places where the setting does a lot of the heavy lifting before the day has even properly started.
Water on one side. Fells on the other. Proper Lake District scenery in almost every direction.
Not exactly a bad place to get married.
A wedding at Low Wood Bay, Windermere
Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa sits on Ambleside Road between Windermere and Ambleside, directly beside Lake Windermere. The venue has lakeside lawns, gardens and private jetty access, with views across the water towards the surrounding fells. English Lakes
That location is really what sets it apart.
You don’t have to disappear for half an hour in search of somewhere that looks good. Walk outside and you’re already there.
And for a wedding, that makes a huge difference.
Guests can actually enjoy the setting rather than the couple vanishing off on a photographic expedition while everyone else wonders where they’ve gone.
Proper Lake District scenery
The Lake District can be ridiculously good when the weather plays nicely.
June gives you long evenings, greenery everywhere and that softer northern light later in the day. Around Low Wood Bay, you’ve then got Lake Windermere itself doing its thing in the background.
The venue also has its own private jetty and lake-fronted grounds, while its outdoor Infinity Platform looks directly across Windermere towards the Langdale Pikes and surrounding fells. English Lakes
There’s a lot of scenery here.
The trick is not letting the scenery take over the wedding.
Because ultimately, the mountains aren’t getting married.
Alice & James
For all the scale of the surroundings, a wedding still comes down to the people in it.
That’s what makes places like Low Wood Bay interesting to work at. You’ve got this enormous landscape around you, but the bits that actually matter are still usually much smaller.
A look across a room.
Someone laughing when they’re supposed to be behaving.
People disappearing outside with a drink.
The conversations happening slightly away from whatever the official schedule says should be happening.
The Lake District gives you the backdrop.
The people give you the story.
A venue that can handle pretty much any sort of wedding
Low Wood Bay is unusually flexible as a wedding venue.
The resort has several different spaces, from the smaller Buckley Room through to the Gallery Lounge and the Lake Suite, with the latter accommodating receptions of up to 280 guests. There’s also the outdoor Infinity Platform for ceremonies overlooking the lake. English Lakes
So it doesn’t particularly feel like a venue designed for one exact type of wedding.
You could have something small and fairly quiet there, or fill the place.
Either way, you’ve still got Windermere sitting outside.
Which is a fairly decent trump card.

If you’re planning a Low Wood Bay wedding, or getting married elsewhere around Windermere or the Lake District, have a look through my wedding portfolio.
My approach is relaxed and documentary-led. I’m much more interested in what the day actually felt like than spending hours turning it into a photoshoot.
